MEET THE FARMERS
Welcome! Northwind Bison is owned and operated by us - Shane & Amanda Stege - along with our three junior farmers. We have lived on our farm raising broiler chickens since 2012, and in 2019 decided to take a leap and invest in a small herd of six bison. While we also have careers as a dairy service manager and dental hygienist, we were both born and raised on farms and have always loved the country life. We are learning new things about raising bison all the time and love sharing about them.
Since 2019, our herd has grown to around 30 animals. They are raised on pasture, and stay outside all year round. They are primarily grass fed, and supplemented with oats when needed. It matters to us to offer quality meat, and that starts with quality animal care.

What about the Meat?
Bison meat is lean, low in fat, and high in protein and iron. It is similar to beef, but not the same - it has a milder flavor with a hint of sweetness, and is more nutrient dense.
